Federal Railway Blues – designing a railway station in Hallstatt

On busy days, around 10.000 people visit Hallstatt. We want to enable a complete switch to train traffic through a new railway station. The area of the train station itself shall be offered as a place to rest, as it is located on the West side and thus, on the sunny lakeside. The paths are laid out in a way that a visitor will intuitively be moved around some spots and can get in touch with the tradition and culture of the site. Every now and then, the path will lead out of the forest to frame a panoramic view of the Salzkammergut. However, after this scenic glance, it will lead the visitor back to the forest. This shall create inner peace and contemplation of the essential.
