Fourth Place conceives a new civic typology that facilitates in-person social engagement through practical combining of communication technologies and the built environment. The project reinterprets the work of sociologist Ray Oldenburg, in which the First Place is identified as home, the Second Place is work, and the Third Place is defined as a neutral public space that acts as a backdrop for social interaction.

Fourth Place is a synthesis of the First, Second, and Third Places with the ambition to mediate an informal public space existing within the confluences between each typology. The conceptualization of this new public setting exists only in this realm of ‘in-between’. It is not a new spatial typology, but a new civic typology that invokes new spatial relationships. Fourth Place hosts a virtual library, symposium center, cafe, auditorium and makerspace. New spatial relationships emerge as a result of the clustering of these disparate yet coinciding cultural spaces into a singular entity. Fourth Place is a speculation towards how architecture will adapt to the increasing synthesis of digital networks and the built environment.

Due to an easily reconfigurable robotic system, it enables event locations for various purposes. Two event scenarios can occur, as well as one non-event scenario. 
Firstly, the street can provide stages for the rock music festival - Rock en Seine. Regularly their stages are at the outskirts of paris. However, the project enables a more central and prominent location. Secondly, the system manages to host several different small events at once. Every year Paris hosts a festival called Latam. It is a cultural festival which mediates around latin american culture in a non stereotypical way. For that purpose areas for exhibition, music, gastronomy, dance, cinema, photography and conferences need to be available. Thirdly, what if there is no commercial event happening. The urban living room scenario occurs. Here citizens are able to rent out individual units for a certain period of time.Citizens' living room activities get expanded to the urban streetscape. Via an app people are able to rent units for a certain duration in order to host their semi private events. This could occur as sports events, dining experiences, showrooms for art exhibitions. Assembly happens in X and Y direction by self driving platforms, in Z direction by two simultaneously moving kuka robot arms. As the summer in Paris gets hotter and hotter the structure for the kuka assembly robot provides integrated water spraying nozzles. Additionally, the frames of the units itself are provided with water spraying nozzles as well. Water tanks can be filled up at the energy providers and due to self driving platforms the units can wander around the city and can even

Our goal was to study the creation of a continuous sequence of spaces smoothly flowing into each other, avoiding the corridors and testing a series of spatial patterns to identify less congested flow of a space with the help of agent’s simulations. Using different configurations of architectural elements, walls and internal furnishing: we generated a series of spaces giving experiential opportunities. The site was located in the centre of milan.

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, our goal has been to provide the prototype with as much fresh air as possible:&#38;nbsp;

The prototype stems from a response to the surrounding air conditions of a prototypical metropolitan building, where fresh air can be viewed as a commodity. A hierarchy of chambers operate collectively to accumulate, distribute and supply fresh air to the prototype, uniquely in complete isolation of any contaminates until it reaches the intended destination. Chambers are designed to manipulate natural airflow, the air is compelled to adjust its velocity, volume and temperature between the system's intake and exhaust. As the most controversial component within the contemporary midrise, circulation has been reconsidered; adapted semi-enclosed paternoster systems deliver individual users up to heavily cross-ventilated chambers, where they can disperse and move onward to their destination. Subsequently, a network of pathways, openly exposed, weave around the perimeter; offering connectivity to chambers.

The contemporary al fresco explorer no longer has the time to travel far to get the al fresco experience. Our proposal brings this to the center of Vienna within a restaurant near the main train station. We analysed the surrounding zones, places to get food from and public transportation, to better understand the ambition of people on site as well as its capacity.&#38;nbsp;

Using this information extracted from a unity simulation, we are able to place volumes that cater to two types of customers; the busy worker and the curious explorer, both keen on eating outdoors and both nostalgic to the locally sourced products. The fast lane creates a linear path with a window counter situation. On the other hand, the meandering explorer lane takes the customer through gardens into the different dining, growing and learning programs.

With the delivery of more and more products comes to a loss of citizenry and discovery associated with the market. We embraced new forms of warehousing. The requirement was to cross an Amazon fulfillment center with a 19th century market hall. Furthermore, new forms of urban mobility, such as lightweight electric vehicles (micro-mobility) are being integrated into the design. Servant and served spaces standing in a direct relationship with each other. Due to the shape of the building paths were expanded, this results in lots of frontage. However, we provided shortcuts over the whole complex to enable a quick transition too. Delivery robots (Starships) maintain the market stalls with a quick exchange of their goods.

What shall a historical place that has been such 
an important political and archeological venue 
at different times in history look like? To tell you 
more about it, the historical 
„Bauakademie“ was 
planned between 1832 and 1836 by Karl Friedrich 
Schinkel, torn down despite its good condition in 
1962 in order to build the ministry of foreign af
-
fairs of the DDR, that, in turn, was torn down again 
in 1995. For a long time, Berlin
’s citizens have been 
asking about the reconstruction. Today, I can 
disclose the secret. Even Schinkel, in those days, 
uttered that things can only be truly alive when 
something new is created. An essential point is the 
fact that Schinkel has been gone for a long time 
and no architect 
– no matter how good they might 
be - can think in an absolute way, like Schinkel 
would think. This, in my opinion, makes the question of a reconstruction unnecessary. However, 
this does not mean that the new 
„Bauakademie
“
will turn its back on Schinkel. No, it tries to seize 
Schinkel
’s spirit and transfer it into contemporary 
architecture. The room arrangement was realized as heterogenous as in the original concept. 
The 
„Bauakademie
“ will become a place of architectural exchange, mediation, communication, 
discourse, teaching, interaction and relaxation.

Federal Railway Blues – 
designing a railway station in Hallstatt

On busy days, around 10.000 people visit Hallstatt. We want to enable a complete switch 
to train traffic through a new railway station. 
The area of the train station itself shall be offered as a place to rest, as it is located on the 
West side and thus, on the sunny lakeside. 
The paths are laid out in a way that a visitor will intuitively be moved around some spots 
and can get in touch with the tradition and culture of the site. Every 
now and then, the path will lead out of the forest to frame a panoramic view of the Salzkammergut. However, after this scenic glance, it will 
lead the visitor back to the forest. This shall create 
inner peace and contemplation of the essential.
